There has been much discussion over the four years I've been emoting (and I know there was a great deal before that as well) regarding the organization of the Emoticon Gallery. Though implementing Add Media was anticipated, and we appreciate the ability of all of us to contribute to the available emotes in comments, its use of the emoticon categories and the inability to keep icons out of them has made a mess of things.
This has, in my opinion, contributed in large part to the lack of activity in the emoticon community. Most of us looked forward to (or depended on) browsing through the gallery for inspiration, concepts, techniques, and most importantly, like-minded deviants. I don't believe there has been a more helpful and pro-active group of deviants on the site. The feedback from and interaction with other emoticonists has been the one thing that has kept me coming back here during those years. Long story short, no gallery... no community.
A solution we at the TheEmoticonGallery are proposing, is to do it ourselves. All emoticonists, and fans of emotes, are invited to join TheEmoticonGallery!
There you will find a gallery structured in simple and well described terms. It has a grand total of 5 categories (folders) to submit to. No icons, no photo packs, no miscats, just emotes with all skill levels encouraged. There will also be a monthly journal that you will be able to contribute to.
Over time, we hope that the group will become a hub, a place to not only start for new emoticonists, but one for all of us to come back to to see what's happening in our community, find inspiration, or challenge ourselves! A place we can call our own!
I hope to see all of you there!
